Your WPdirectdebit Subscription
Covering how your WPdirectdebit licence works, how billing is handled, and what happens if a payment doesn’t go through.
It’s a subscription, not a one-off purchase
WPdirectdebit is licensed on a recurring subscription, the same way most software you rely on day-to-day works. Your subscription keeps you on the latest version — new features, bug fixes, and security updates — and keeps your access to support active. There’s nothing to renew manually and nothing extra to remember: as long as your payment keeps going through, everything just continues working in the background.
Keeping your subscription active is a condition of use
Using WPdirectdebit — including using it to collect live Direct Debit payments from your own customers — requires an active, current subscription for as long as you use the plugin. This is a condition of your licence to use the software.
A lapsed payment doesn’t interrupt collections you already have running. What it does do is pause plugin updates and access to support, and prevent new live GoCardless connections until your subscription is current again. Keeping your subscription current for as long as you use WPdirectdebit is the condition your licence is granted on.
How billing works
If you signed up through our website, your subscription is billed automatically through Stripe, our payment provider. Stripe handles your card details securely — we never see or store them ourselves.
You don’t need to do anything day-to-day. Stripe charges your card on your billing schedule and keeps your subscription active automatically.
Managing your billing details
If you ever need to update your card, check an invoice, or see your billing history, you can do that yourself at any time — no need to email us. Click on the Customer Portal link in the main menu. Enter the email address you subscribed with, and Stripe will send you a secure link to your own billing dashboard.
If a payment doesn’t go through
Occasionally a card payment fails — it might have expired, or there wasn’t enough available balance at the time. If that happens:
- You’ll see a notice at the top of your WordPress dashboard letting you know your subscription needs attention, with a direct link to update your billing.
While your subscription is inactive, plugin updates are paused, and connecting a new live GoCardless account is paused too.
Nothing about your live Direct Debit collections is affected. If you’re already connected and collecting payments from your own customers, that continues running exactly as normal — a lapsed WPdirectdebit subscription never touches your customers’ mandates or payments. It only pauses updates and new connections for *your* WPdirectdebit licence, nothing more.
Once you’ve updated your billing, click “I’ve fixed this — check again” on the notice, and it clears immediately — no need to wait for anything.
Direct Debit billing customers
A small number of long-standing customers pay their WPdirectdebit subscription by Direct Debit rather than through Stripe. If that’s you, you’ll already know — nothing here changes for you, and if you ever have a billing question, just get in touch and we’ll sort it out directly.
