You can continue to use any other payment method, and benefit from a number of advantages from using WPdirectdebit as well:

  • Low fees: GoCardless fees are low at just 1% plus 20p per transaction in the UK (taxes may apply).
  • Control: WPdirectdebit payments are via Direct Debit – many people feel more in control of their money when they pay by this method because they are covered by the Direct Debit guarantee. They can easily review their payments and subscriptions via the bank and you can even offer them a way to review these on your website. We provide shortcodes you can drop into a page to create an account page for customers.
  • Chargebacks: Chargeback fees don’t exist with Direct Debits (but you should always ensure your customers contractually agree to pay you, as banks are likely to refund disputed payments).

Or you could decide just to use WPdirectdebit:

  • Simpler admin: Since WPdirectdebit makes it easy to set up recurring payments and one-off payments, why not simplify your site maintenance by just using WPdirectdebit for all your transactions. By doing so you can also view all of your customers’ payments and subscriptions in one place – in the GoCardless dashboard.

No. You only pay an annual subscription which gives you access to the latest software, ready-made forms, documentation and support. GoCardless charge their normal transaction fees; we do not add anything on to these.

You pay your annual WPdirectdebit subscription. (You’ll also need the basic Gravity Forms license.)

GoCardless transaction costs apply to all transactions. These tend to be low compared to card payments and PayPal. We do not add any mark-up to the costs.

Do customers need a new bank mandate for every transaction?2021-05-27T12:10:20+01:00

No – if you allow them to create an account on your website, their mandate ID is then saved with their user profile and WPdirectdebit will use this same active mandate for all transactions. Returning customers will not need to re-enter their details each time.

If you don’t want to allow customer registrations on your site, then a new mandate will be set up for every subscription or purchase. While this will work, it is simpler for your customers if you do allow them to register. Registration, mandate set-up and subscription set-up can all be handled on one form.

What currencies can I trade in?2022-09-14T16:19:42+01:00

GoCardless gives you access to a growing number of Direct Debit schemes around the world. Currently, GoCardless covers 30 countries and 8 currencies. When you collect international payments, you can collect from your customers in their currencies, then have the payments converted into your home currency and paid out into your domestic bank account.

For Direct Debit (aka bank debit) payments, the currently supported currencies are GBP, EUR, SEK, DKK, AUD, NZD, CAD and USD. For Instant Bank Pay, GBP is supported along with EUR in Germany, with more currencies and countries to follow. What currencies you can accept is dependent on the country you are trading in.
